The Atelier

Our Policies

The four commitments that govern every commission we accept — from the first conversation with Stanford to the lifetime service of every piece we deliver.

Policy I

Shipping

Every RSAAIDIAMONDS commission is delivered fully insured, signature-required, at no charge to the buyer. Shipping is included in the price of every piece, regardless of value or destination within the United States.

Carrier and Insurance

All pieces ship via FedEx Priority Overnight, insured to the full invoice value of the piece. Coverage is underwritten through a jeweler’s block carrier in good standing. Adult signature is required on delivery; no exceptions, no signature releases, no carrier-side waivers.

Timing

A piece ships the same business day the final fifty-percent balance is settled, provided settlement clears before 2:00 PM Eastern. Settlements received after 2:00 PM Eastern ship the following business day. The buyer receives the FedEx tracking number by email at the moment the piece is sealed for transit.

Delivery Address

Pieces ship to the verified billing address on file or to an alternate address provided in writing and confirmed by Stanford prior to the final balance settling. The atelier does not ship to commercial mail-forwarding services, freight forwarders, or addresses outside of FedEx’s direct delivery network.

In Transit

From the moment the piece leaves the Bethesda atelier until it is signed for at the destination, RSAAIDIAMONDS retains responsibility for it. If a piece is lost, damaged, or compromised in transit, the atelier files the insurance claim, replaces or rebuilds the piece at no charge to the buyer, and notifies the buyer in writing within twenty-four hours of any delivery exception.

International Shipping

At present, RSAAIDIAMONDS delivers within the United States only. International commissions are accepted by special arrangement with Stanford and quoted separately to account for bonded-carrier transport, customs documentation, and destination-country duties, which remain the buyer’s responsibility. International shipping will be opened more broadly in a future phase of the atelier.

Policy II

Atelier Commission Terms

Every RSAAIDIAMONDS piece is built on commission. We do not maintain finished inventory, we do not sell loose stones, and we do not display product for general sale. Each commission proceeds through a defined sequence of stages, each with its own commitments and its own gates.

How a Commission Is Built

A commission begins when Stanford and the buyer agree on the design brief: the form of the piece, the center stone, the metal, the setting style, and any accent or melee work. From there the piece moves through 3D rendering, wax or CAD approval, casting, stone setting, final finish, IGI verification of the set stones, and delivery.

Stanford remains the buyer’s direct point of contact at every stage. The bench jeweler is engaged by the atelier, not by the buyer.

Deposit and Final Payment

A commission is confirmed by a fifty-percent deposit, due at the moment the buyer signs off on the final 3D render and the piece moves to casting. The remaining fifty-percent balance is due when the finished piece is sealed in its insured FedEx package and the tracking number is issued.

No casting work begins, and no stone is committed to a setting, until the deposit has cleared.

Cancellation Before Casting

A buyer may cancel a commission at any time before casting begins. In that event, the deposit is refunded in full, less a twenty-five-percent atelier fee covering Stanford’s time, the 3D render work, any CAD or wax produced, and the administrative cost of releasing the reserved stone.

Cancellation must be made in writing to Stanford. The refund is processed within ten business days of the written request.

After Casting

Once casting begins, the piece is committed. The reserved stones are no longer recoverable to the atelier in resaleable condition, and the bench labor is contracted and underway. The deposit is non-refundable from that point forward. The fifty-percent balance becomes due on delivery as scheduled.

After Delivery

Every piece is final on delivery. RSAAIDIAMONDS commissions are bespoke and cannot be returned for refund. The piece is, however, covered by a fourteen-day adjustment window for resize, prong correction, comfort fit, and finish or polish work, performed at no charge. Beyond fourteen days, the piece continues under the atelier’s lifetime service program described in Policy IV.

Stones, Reports, and Provenance

Every stone set in an RSAAIDIAMONDS commission carries an IGI laboratory report. The original report is included with the finished piece. After the stone is set, the atelier confirms with IGI that the report remains valid on the set stone, and the buyer receives both the original report and the post-set verification.

RSAAIDIAMONDS does not photograph loose stones, does not sell loose stones, and does not disclose the identity of its sourcing partners. Stones are inputs to the atelier and are not transacted independently of a commission.

Policy III

Returns & Adjustments

Because every RSAAIDIAMONDS piece is built on commission for a single buyer, the atelier does not accept returns for refund on finished pieces. The piece is yours from the moment it is delivered. Our obligations to you do not end there, however; they continue under the lifetime service program described in Policy IV and under the adjustment window described below.

Cancellation Before Casting

A commission may be cancelled at any time before casting begins. The deposit is refunded less a twenty-five-percent atelier fee covering Stanford’s design time, render and CAD work, and the administrative cost of releasing the reserved stone. The full terms of pre-casting cancellation appear in Policy II.

No Returns After Casting

Once casting begins, the piece is committed and cannot be cancelled, returned, or refunded. The stones have been allocated to the setting, the bench labor is contracted and in progress, and the piece can no longer be released back to the atelier as new.

Fourteen-Day Adjustment Window

Every finished commission carries a fourteen-day adjustment window beginning on the day of delivery. During this window, the atelier performs the following work at no charge:

  • Resize, by Stanford or the contracted bench jeweler, to the buyer’s correct finger size.
  • Prong correction, retipping, and stone-seat adjustment.
  • Comfort fit refinement on bands and shanks.
  • Final polish, finish correction, and rhodium replate where applicable.

Adjustments do not include design changes, stone substitutions, or alterations that materially modify the piece as approved at the 3D render stage. Material redesigns are accepted by special arrangement with Stanford and quoted separately.

How to Request an Adjustment

Adjustment requests are made in writing to Stanford within fourteen days of delivery. The atelier provides return-shipping instructions for in-bound transport, fully insured at the atelier’s expense. Adjustment work is completed and returned within ten business days of receipt at Bethesda.

Beyond Fourteen Days

After the fourteen-day window closes, the piece continues under the atelier’s lifetime service program. The scope and terms of lifetime service, including the distinction between in-person and mail-in service, are described in Policy IV.

Policy effective May 13, 2026. This policy applies to commissions delivered on or after the effective date. RSAAIDIAMONDS is a DBA of RSAAID LLC, a Maryland limited liability company.

Policy IV

Lifetime Atelier Service

Every RSAAIDIAMONDS commission is registered to its owner on the day of delivery and remains under the atelier’s lifetime service program for as long as the piece is in the owner’s possession. Service is provided at no charge under the terms set forth below.

What Lifetime Service Includes

  • Prong tightening and retipping as needed over the life of the piece.
  • Rhodium replating on white-gold settings, to maintain the original finish.
  • Polishing and cleaning at any frequency the owner requests.
  • One complimentary resize within the first twelve months following delivery, for owners whose finger size changes after the initial fitting.

Work outside this scope, including additional resizes after the first twelve months, structural modifications, redesign, and stone replacement, is performed by the atelier at the bench-cost rate, quoted in writing before any work begins.

In-Person Service: Pieces Invoiced at $25,000 or Higher

Service on pieces invoiced at twenty-five thousand dollars or above is performed in-person at the Bethesda atelier, by appointment with Stanford. The buyer brings the piece in; the work is completed while the buyer waits or on a same-day return basis where the scope permits. Pieces of this value are not accepted by ordinary insured mail.

Owners residing outside Maryland may arrange transport via a bonded jewelry carrier, such as Brink’s, Malca-Amit, or FedEx Custom Critical, at the owner’s expense. Return transport is fully insured and covered by RSAAIDIAMONDS.

Service by Mail: Pieces Invoiced Under $25,000

Service on pieces invoiced under twenty-five thousand dollars is available either in-person at Bethesda or by insured FedEx mail at the owner’s election. For mail-in service, the owner covers in-bound shipping to Bethesda, fully insured to the piece’s declared value. Return shipping is fully insured and covered by RSAAIDIAMONDS.

Mail-in service is turned around within fifteen business days of receipt at the atelier, absent the need for outside bench work or specialty finishing.

Value Determination

Whether a piece falls above or below the twenty-five-thousand-dollar threshold is determined by the original invoice value at the time the commission was delivered. The threshold does not move with subsequent changes in market price, stone valuation, or insurance appraisal. The invoice governs.

Registration and Eligibility

Lifetime service is registered to the original buyer on delivery and travels with the piece in the event of a gift, inheritance, or private transfer, provided the atelier is notified in writing of the new owner of record. The atelier retains the right to verify the piece against its commission records before performing service.

Policy effective May 13, 2026. The lifetime service program is a commitment of the atelier and is not transferable to third-party jewelers. Service work performed by parties other than RSAAIDIAMONDS may void the warranty on prong-set stones and on rhodium finish. RSAAIDIAMONDS is a DBA of RSAAID LLC, a Maryland limited liability company.
